Scott Morrison is clearly uncomfortable talking about and defending the appointment of his former chief of staff and the Finance Ministers former chief of staff to the positions of Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Treasury, respectively.
Mr Morrison is so uncomfortable talking about the appointment process that a media question asking him about the matter yesterday did not appear in the transcript issued by his office.
At Mr Morrisons doorstop yesterday in Tasmania, a journalist is clearly heard asking him the following:
JOURNALIST: Treasurer, do you think its appropriate that your former, you and Senator Cormanns former chiefs of staff are now Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Treasury?
And all the Treasurer responded with was Yes.
This is what made it into the Treasurers transcript:
QUESTION:
[inaudible]
TREASURER:
Yes. Thank you.
Scott Morrison is obviously embarrassed by the appointment processes that saw his and Mathias Cormanns former Chiefs of Staff land the most prestigious roles in Treasury.
Two of the three Treasury portfolio announcements that of the new Productivity Commission Chair and Treasury Deputy Secretary were snuck out last Friday afternoon.
Scott Morrison may not want to defend his overt politicisation of the Treasury, but Labor will continue to pursue this matter and questions surrounding these Treasury portfolio appointments.
Treasury under my stewardship as Treasurer and under a future Shorten led Labor Government will resume its rightful place back as the premier central policy agency and the politicisation will end.
