Thalidomide survivors have been mistreated for fifty years and by failing to respond to a Senate Inquiry the Morrison Government is prolonging their suffering.
The Senate Inquiryinstigated in 2018 into Support for Australias Thalidomide Survivors produced its final report in March and made 11 recommendations.
The recommendations include a national apology and additional support to enable thalidomide survivors to live with their disabilities.
This Government has been arrogantly sitting on these recommendations for six months with no view to respond until late next year.
This is not good enough.
This is an insult to Australias thalidomide survivors.
Today, we have written to Minister Hunt to request he respond to the Inquiry immediately. Australias thalidomide survivors deserve a Government response to this Inquiry.
Every day that the Morrison Government fails to respond to this inquiry is another day that Australian thalidomide survivors suffer.
This Government has the opportunity right now to respond to the survivors of the tragedy and give them the respect they deserve.
They have our full bipartisan support if they do so.
And will have our ongoing scrutiny if they do not.
THALIDOMIDE SURVIVORS DESERVE GOVERNMENT RESPONSE NOW
