Greg Hunt has again politicised the Department of Health, this time by using nearly $4 million of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme media budget as a Liberal Party slush fund in the lead up to the election.
In an answer to a Question on Notice the Department confirmed on Tuesday that $3,816,298 was spent on advertising for the PBS in the three weeks prior to the election announcement.
There was no PBS media spend in 2019 until this politically convenient period.
In a Government devoid of agenda, this Minister is more than happy to promote the independently recommended PBS listings as a Liberal Government successes.
This is despite thousands of patients waiting for pharmaceutical products that have been recommended by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee but not listed by the Government.
Minister Hunt should stop politicising and start governing because under his watch out of pocket health costs have never been higher, and waiting lists have never been longer.
