LIBERALS ATTACK ON INDUSTRY FUNDS SUFFERS SENATE SET-BACK

The Turnbull Governments latest ideological attack on superannuation has suffered a major set-back after they lost support for it in the Senate.

Its yet more evidence of a chaotic government that has lost control of its legislative program.

Only days after the Turnbull Government argued that their superannuation bills including attacks on industry funds - should be the number one priority in the Senate this week, they have moved to dump them from the program altogether because they couldnt get the support of the cross bench.

Labor was ready to debate and vote on the legislation we know our position. We think it is bad law thats nothing more than another notch on the Turnbull Governments attack on industry super fundsand Labor will not facilitate it.

The Manager of Government Business in the Senate, Mitch Fifield, admitted that the Government had botched its legislative priority list:

On one point the Leader of the Opposition [in the Senate] does have the government cold. She's absolutely right that we do want to vary the program and she's absolutely right that at this point in time the government would not have the numbers for these particular pieces of legislation. She's got us cold. We confess. We admit it. It's true.

In pursuing its ideological agenda against trade unions and industry funds, the Government thought it could take the Senate crossbench for granted.

Labor will continue to make the argument against these bills and the ideological agenda on which theyre premised.
